Caitlin has had a passion for horses since a young age. Her degree in Psychology and Sociology from UNO has given her a better understanding for the human and animal mind as well as behavior. She has been involved with horses for nearly 30 years, and teaching horse riding lessons for over 17 years.
Olive Branch Equestrian is a faith based business; the name meaning “Peace and Rest”. Biblically the dove and the olive branch symbolize the peace and rest we strive to offer our clients and horses through learning and achieving our goals.
Unchained Melody
March 12, 1997 - March 22, 2024
Westphalian/Percheron/Arabian mare that Caitlin owned for nearly 20 years. She is the matriarch of Olive Branch Equestrian.
My girl of many names: Mel, Melli, Melon, Melbatoast, and Melancholy; Despite the latter, your attitude about life was always so fiercely jolly.
Big brown eyes abounding in intense expression and full of fire; Of all the pretty horses throughout the world you are my one desire.
You would whinny and nicker every time I called your name; A deep baritone rumble like thunder that shook your silver mane.
Glowing like a light in the darkness you would always appear; Wrapping your head around me in a hug before blowing your sweet warm breath into my ear.
You were perfect and good, forgiving and kind; Upon your broad back I would lay and look at the stars to unwind.
With your strength and patience you took away all my fears; For the countless times I soaked your speckled neck with floods of falling tears.
To you every secret I did share; You knew everything and loved me, we were a bonded pair.
You enjoyed being painted with mulberries from the tree; The only way to reach them was to stand on your back then to the ends of the earth I could see, like the vastness of our love, because we were connected you and me.
Within your hay bale I would sit at your giant feet, listen to your peaceful munching, and gaze up at you until the sun's last bright glare; You consistently managed to get hay all over in my hair.
You would perk your big ears, tilt your head, and twist your lips back and forth at the sound of a peppermint package crinkle; Then lick my hand relentless until my skin would prune and wrinkle.
Every time I tried to leave and close the stall door; Your top lip would fling it open to mooch for some more.
You would tuck back your muzzle if I kissed your velvet nose with a quick peck; Then stretch down in contentment so I could run my nails down both sides of your neck.
Your forelock split two ways to frame your regal face; You are the one and only most wonderful horse that I could never replace.
In winter your coat would grow so incredibly fluffy; A marshmallow or polar bear I called you until spring when the yard and air was filled with your shedding fur, cotton-like and puffy.
On your right side you wore an angel's kiss; A birthmark of a handprint, to run my own hand across it I will miss.
Your mane and tail had turned white as snow with a silver trim; Which looked like sparkling starlight when you gladly splashed into the lake for a summer swim.
You were fearless and above all horses thee most brave; Except for plastic bags at which you would snort, toss your head, and flick your thick waving tail like a frothing tidal wave.
You let children climb all over you and even under; Everyone who met you could not help but admire you in wonder.
I used to ride you with no tack up the pasture fast with arms spread wide; Then grab the bar above the gate to swing into the air when you ran past to get inside.
Rippling in muscle you jumped arena fences by yourself just for fun; You took tender care of me through many triumphant competitions, we knew each other so well that we indeed moved as one.
You did it all: jumping, dressage, roping, barrels, and pulling a carriage; You were even the honored guest at my long awaited marriage.
You disliked being held back and wanted to gallop night or day; Despite my efforts you were so strong you often took off anyway.
Your hooves pounded the ground with power, glory, and grace; No creature in all of creation could ever take your place.
You were my wings, you took my breath away when like lightening we would fly; I never thought I would see the day that I would have to say goodbye.
You were my special one, magnificent, royal, proud, grand, and wild; Mixed with a gentle and sweet spirit like that of a precious child.
You loved your tree lined pasture and to wander in the yard; To look outside and never again see your sweet face will be unimaginably hard.
I loved to watch you run, kick up your heels, and play; I yearned with all my heart that forever with me you would stay.
Without you here I will never be the same; Knowing I can no longer run to you, burry my face into your neck, and entwine my fingers in your mane.
As you last laid your majestic head upon my shoulder; You were more beautiful to me even though you were older.
You stayed with me and stood guard through dark times until you were sure I would be okay; You were an angel sent from heaven, the answer to every prayer I did pray.
You forever were, are, and will be the best; The hardest thing I have ever done is lay you to rest.
You are now unbridled, uncaged, unchained, and free;
When I get to heaven I know you will be the first I see, for I love you so much that you became apart of me.
So soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint; Know that every sunset and sunrise it is you I view in the brilliant paint.
When Jesus returns He will be riding a horse colored white; To see Him upon your back shall be thee most glorious sight..
